Getting There
The Lainzer Tor is the main entrance to Lainzer Tiergarten, Vienna’s large nature reserve. At 2,450-hectares, the reserve is on the city's western edge, so it's easy to get to this protected wilderness.
You can drive and park at the Lainzer Tor gate. Or, if you prefer public transport, Lainzer Tor is also easy to reach without a car. You can quickly leave the city behind and find yourself in a wild, natural environment, ready to hike, picnic, or spot wildlife.
What to Expect
When you arrive at Lainzer Tor, you’ll see a Visitor Center where you can get maps and information before exploring the nature reserve.
Near the entrance is the Schlosspark Teich, also known as Hohenauer Teich. The pond is surrounded by playgrounds and meadows, perfect for kids and picnics.
As you go further into the Lainzer Tiergarten, remember that you're in a protected wilderness area with wild boar, red deer, and fallow deer. Bird watching is also great here.
