Getting There

Griffith Park is easy to get to, with entry points from Vermont Avenue, Western Avenue, or Crystal Springs Drive.

If you're taking public transportation, the METRO Red Line stops at Vermont/Sunset. From there, you can catch a DASH bus to different parts of the park.

If you're driving, there's plenty of parking. But it fills up fast, especially on weekends. If you're going to the Griffith Observatory or another popular spot, a rideshare might be easier than trying to park.

What to Expect

Griffith Park is huge, so plan your visit around what you want to do. There's a lot to choose from, including walking trails, bird watching, playgrounds, and splash pads.

It gets busy, especially on weekends and around the popular attractions and trails. The terrain varies, with flat picnic areas and more challenging walking trails. To really see Griffith Park, set aside at least half a day.

Tips & Tricks

  • To fully enjoy your time exploring Griffith Park, comfortable and supportive footwear is essential, especially with its extensive walking trails. You'll be glad you wore them as you traverse the park's many paths.

  • Los Angeles weather can be warm, so remember to bring plenty of water, particularly if you're visiting during the warmer months, to stay hydrated throughout your exploration.

  • Make a stop at the Visitor Center upon arrival. It's an excellent resource for picking up maps and getting the latest information to help you navigate the park and discover current offerings.

  • Finally, to make the most of your visit and save a little money, consider packing a picnic. You can enjoy your meal at one of the park's designated picnic areas, offering a pleasant break amidst nature.

Best Times to Visit

The timing of your visit can make a big difference. If you want fewer people and cooler temperatures, go early in the morning, especially if you plan to walk the trails.

Weekdays are usually quieter than weekends, especially in the open spaces.

Avoid being too active in the mid-day summer sun. It can get really hot.

The Observatory has great sunset views. Plan to be there at dusk for a nice view of the city.
