Getting There
Public transportation is an easy way to reach Parque Metropolitano. To ride the historic funicular, take the Metro to either the Baquedano or Salvador stations. Both are close to the funicular entrance, which goes straight up San Cristóbal Hill to the main attractions.
Alternatively, you can take the Cable Car from Oasis Station, on the Tobalaba Metro line. This route offers panoramic views on the way up to the park's higher points, convenient for reaching the Japanese Garden or various viewpoints.
If you drive, parking near the lower entrances is limited. Ride-sharing services might be more convenient, dropping you off closer to where you want to start without the parking hassle.
The park has multiple entrances. The Pío Nono entrance is popular for its direct access to the funicular. Another main entry point is Pedro de Valdivia Norte, giving you a different place to begin exploring.
What to Expect
Parque Metropolitano is a large urban park on San Cristóbal Hill with many things to see. Because it's so big and offers so much—including the Virgin Mary statue, a zoo, and gardens—planning your route ahead of time is a good idea. This helps you get around and focus on what you want to see most.
Allow 3 to 6 hours to see the main areas, like the zoo, Japanese garden, and main viewpoints. This gives you time to explore without feeling rushed.
Expect crowds, especially on weekends or holidays. Parque Metropolitano is popular with locals and tourists alike. Even with the crowds, the panoramic views are worth it. From different spots in the park, you'll see great views of Santiago below, with the Andes mountains in the background.
Tips & Tricks
For a memorable visit, ride both the funicular and cable car. Go up on the funicular for initial views, then explore the park's upper area before going down on the cable car, which offers a different view of Santiago and the Andes.
Comfortable shoes are a must, given the many walking trails in Parque Metropolitano. Bring water and snacks, especially if you plan a longer visit.
The Japanese Garden is a nice quiet spot away from the main attractions.
Bring your own picnic to save money. The park has designated areas where you can eat your lunch.
